The LCHS Alumni Association was founded in September 1997. Though we are young in years, the LCHS Alumni Association is part of a vigorous communiuty which has been committed to education since 1885. Surrounded by hills and the rugged San Gabriel Mountains, La Cañada Flintridge’s early settlers developed a special feeling of affinity. They shared intangibles that made a community work: mutual respect, neighborly helpfulness and cooperation. Together they built the houses and shops of La Cañada Flintridge and formed the churches and service clubs. In 1885 they started the first school.
The opening of the high school in 1963 rounded out the community by providing a center, a gathering place, and a common experience for its youth. While our community has changed a bit since 1885, it is still filled with people who are doers and workers with shared values. It continues to be a place for families where kids can grow up to become contributing members of society. And the schools still place positive expectations on students.
But no good community can be taken for granted, particularly in Southern California. Maintaining its well-being requires continuing effort. To that end, we have organized the LCHS Alumni Association. We want to offer students and community members an opportunity to learn and care about their community and know something about the traditions of their schools.
As the Association continues to grow we hope to provide channels for communication among LCHS graduates and between graduates and students, faculty and administrators.
